PANGLAO Island, Fact, History, Island Natives and the new locals, native local dialects, Beach Life and Marine Adventure

Panglao is an island in the north Bohol Sea, located in the Central Visayas region of the Visayas island group, in the south-central Philippines.

Early History

The people of Bohol are said to be the descendants of a group of inhabitants

who settled in the Philippines called pintados or "tattooed ones." Boholanos

already had a culture of their own as evidenced by artifacts unearthed at

Mansasa, Tagbilaran, and in Dauis and Panglao.

Early years

Panglao was known to Asian traders (Chinese, Malay (Maylaysian-Malayo-Singaporean-Malayo), Siamese (Thailand) and Malayan Peninsula-Borneo+ (Indonesian). It once housed the Kedatuan of Dapitan.

People 

Aside from the native Filipno Austronesian Cebuano [boholano] speaking islanders, many of the new residents are the Filipino Austronesian Tagalog [Filipino/Palau] (formerly malayo-polynesian language group), the international migrant communities also settled and lived in the island and made added to the list of  locals. [composes of some american-filipino, earopean-filipino (spanish/ german/ swiss/ italian/ russian/ french+), asians [chinese-filipino, japanese-filipino, korean-filipino+]  and Oceanic Australian-filipino]

The island composes of two Municipalities Dauis Town and Panglao Town.

Religion and Culture

The island is dominiated by Christian Roman Cathoilc and celebrates with big events annually in honor to the town  Patron Saints in Fiestas (Festivals) with a holy mass at the church, colorful decorations along the streets, street parade/ marching bands with majorettes, colorful street dancing, preparing great foods, various musical activities, merrymaking, beauty pageant, sports activities, open venue disco parties "skies the limit" and more...

Tourism (Beach Life / Marine Adventure)

Panglao island is one of the main tourist destinations on the Philippines. Alona Beach is the most popular tourist spot on the island, noted for its white sand and clear water. There are also a lot of attractions to do for tourists such as scuba-diving, island hopping, dolphin watching, snorkeling, kitesurfing and fishing.
 

Biodiversity

About 250 new species of crustaceans and 2500 new species of mollusks were found around the island. The discovery was the work of the Panglao Marine Biodiversity Project. The project found that Panglao alone has more marine biodiversity than Japan and the Mediterranean sea (wikipedia).

Transportations

Panglao Island International Airport is a planned airport meant to be the primary international airport to serve the province of Bohol. At three years behind schedule, it is now set to be in operational status at the end of 2018.


The site of planned airport is very close to Tagbilaran Airport which currently serves Panglao Island and the rest of Bohol for domestic air travelers. It also is less than 2 hours travel time from Mactan-Cebu International airport, which is a gateway to the Central Philippines for international tourists, although there is no direct flight.

Alona beach coast is also popular of it's yearly new years eve countdown fire works display, merry making with locals and guest, couples sweet kiss in welcoming the new year and DJ, live bands, songs and beach dance parties.

Modern Day Panglaowanon (Island natives and Language / Dialects)

The present day island natives or locals are called Boholano-Panglaowanon / Boholano-Dauisnon and majprity speaks "binisaya" Austronesian Cebuano (Boholano/ kana) and Austronesian Cebuano (Boholano/ binol-anon (bol-anon).
